ZOMBIFIED PODCAST – FEATURING ATHENA AKTIPIS

Perhaps one of the most important academic conferences last year was the very first annual Zombie Apocalypse Medicine Meeting presented by Arizona State University. This wonderful event featured a number of amazing panels, zombie workshops, and featured speakers. Not to mention our very own Advisory Board member and survival expert Cameron Carlson, who discussed emergency management and response during the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Events like ZAMM continue to push the boundaries of academic research, and support our mission to examine the incredible historic, cultural, and scientific importance of the living dead. However, such events would not be possible without the tireless efforts and dedication of a few brilliant people like Pamela Winfrey, Cristina Baciu, and our friend Athena Aktipis.

Apparently, Athena’s love of zombiism was more than a passing phase. And we’re proud to announce that she has launched a brand new podcast with Dave Lundberg-Kenrick called Zombified; an exceptionally entertaining and educational podcast about how humanity is vulnerable and susceptible to control by almost anything, and what that means for our future.

Have you been zombified? Is something taking over your brain? Zombified is a new podcast about how we are vulnerable to being hijacked by things that are not us. From microbes hijacking behavior, to humans influencing each other, to our brains being taken over by social media, we talk about why zombification happens, why we are susceptible to it, and what we can do about it. Hosted by Dr. Athena Aktipis, a Psychology Professor at ASU and the founder of the Zombie Apocalypse Medicine Alliance, and co-hosted by zombie enthusiast Dave Lundberg-Kenrick, “Zombified” takes a radically interdisciplinary approach to the science of zombification. If you enjoy fresh brains, this podcast is for you!

The official Zombified podcast features interviews with a number academics, scientists, and scholars who aren’t afraid to discuss the unseen forces that affect our behavior. It covers an astounding number of disciplines including evolutionary biology, psychology, parasitology, microbiology, computer science and much more. In fact, both Dave and Athena have already talked about everything from puppies to monster algorithms and microbial zombification.

Honestly, we were caught a little off guard about how popular this new podcast has become. Athena contacted us directly prior to launch, and now there are already nine new episodes available. That’s at least nine amazing Zombified episodes available right now via Stitcher, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or however you subscribe to your favorite podcasts!

Of course you can always follow them online at Instagram and Twitter, or check the official Zombified website to learn more. But if you’re really impressed, and want to help Athena and Dave continue to provide amazing, entertaining, and educational content like this, please considering funding them on Patreon. Either way, we’re pretty sure that you’ll enjoy listening to Zombified. So go check it out right now, because what you don’t know can eat you!
